(Bubo virginianus - referred to as the "tiger" of the sky)

Largest of our tufted owls.

Most widespread of all North American owl species.

Body length 18 inches to 25 inches; weight 2-pounds to 5-pounds; wingspan 3-1/2 feet to 5-1/2 feet.

Lives everywhere except very dense forests and treeless prairies in North, Central and South America.

Hunts earthworms, reptiles, amphibians, other birds and mammals up to the size of porcupines including skunks.
