American Kestrel
(also called sparrow hawk, killy hawk and wind hover)
- Smallest falcon in North America. Males have blue on wings while females are mostly brown.
- Body length 8 inches to 12 inches; weight 2 ounces to 6 ounces; wingspan 20 inches to 24 inches.
- Lives in most of North, Central and South America. Cavity dwellers living in farmland, orchards, open country, grasslands, city parks, desert, prairies, but not in dense forests.
- Hunts large insects, small rodents, small birds, reptiles.
