Red-Tail Hawk
(also called "buzzard hawk or hen hawk")

Most common hawk in North America.

Body length 17 to 24 inches; weight 1-1/2 pounds to 4 pounds; wingspan 3-1/2 feet to 4-1/2 feet.

The red tail does not appear until after the 1st year.

Lives in forests, edge habitat, prairies, open fields and meadows interspersed with woods or bluffs, deserts, tropical rainforests and mountain forests.

Hunts small mammals, birds, insects, amphibians and reptiles.
